Stripe MCP: search the API, then read or write with an agent key
Stripe's MCP server is a hosted API surface for agents, not a webhook tutorial. The docs page is the setup source; there is no community fork you should prefer.
What it does
The server lives at https://mcp.stripe.com. Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and other clients get a short JSON snippet. Stripe also has stripe agent setup via the CLI to install the MCP plus skills for supported agents.
Tools are grouped on purpose: search API methods, get details, read, write, plus docs search, analytics and a few Treasury/Atlas extras. That search-then-execute shape keeps the tool list from matching the entire Stripe API one-to-one.
Auth is OAuth for interactive clients, or an Agent-tagged API key for autonomous ones. Stripe documents a migration: full-access secret keys and untagged restricted keys stop working. Confirm the date on the docs page when you set this up. Refunds and some money movement require human confirmation.
Who it is for
People building or debugging Stripe integrations with an agent in the loop. Also support-style agents that need to look up a customer in a sandbox.
Do not point a write-enabled Stripe MCP at live mode on a laptop you use for casual chat. Sandbox first.
Our take
The tool design is better than a naïve "one tool per endpoint" wrapper. Confirmation on refunds is the right default.
Limits: this will not fix application code that grants access on the success redirect. The agent can still call the wrong API well. Hosted MCP means Stripe sees the prompts' tool traffic. This is a vendor product, not a GitHub kit.
