Claude Code Templates: an npx catalog of agents, hooks and MCP
Claude Code Templates is the opposite of a single CLAUDE.md: a browsable catalog you install with npx claude-code-templates@latest.
What it does
The project ships agents, custom commands, settings, hooks, MCP integrations and skills. The README shows one-liners that pull a frontend-developer agent, a test generator, a GitHub MCP, or a pre-commit hook. There is also an interactive browser and extra commands for analytics and a conversation monitor.
The companion site aitmpl.com is the human interface for the same catalog. Both the GitHub repo and the site resolved when we checked them.
Because installation is a command, it is easy to add several components to a project you have not read. Each component is someone else's prompt and, for MCP entries, someone else's network access.
Who it is for
Claude Code users who want to try a specialist agent or a hook without writing the YAML themselves. Useful for demos, spike projects and for seeing how other people structure a command file.
Less useful as the long-term source of truth for a production app. You still need project facts, real commands and a never-do list that match your repo.
Our take
The installer is the strength. A lot of Claude Code material is copy-paste from screenshots; this project treats components as packages.
The limit is volume and trust. A catalog this wide will include stale MCP ids, overlapping agents and prompts that fight your CLAUDE.md. Read the component before you install it. Do not pass --yes on a repo that can touch production.
We have not audited the catalog. MIT on the repo is not a review of every agent it can install.
Compared with AgentKit Drawer
The Claude Code Kit is a closed set we wrote and can describe line by line. Templates is a storefront. If you want least-privilege subagents and four specific hooks, buy or copy a small kit. If you want to browse fifty agents, use the catalog and then delete most of them.
The two can coexist: keep a short CLAUDE.md you own, and install one command you actually understand.
